Discover Nakau - Route 163, Moriguchi

If you ever find yourself driving along Osaka’s busy arterial roads and craving something warm, filling, and reliably Japanese, Nakau - Route 163, Moriguchi is the kind of place that quietly delivers. Tucked at 1 Chome-11-17 Minamiterakata Higashidori, Moriguchi, Osaka 570-0043, Japan, this branch sits right along Route 163, making it an easy stop whether you’re commuting, road-tripping, or just running errands around Moriguchi.

I’ve stopped here more than once after long afternoons in Osaka, and what strikes me every time is the consistency. Nakau, as a nationwide chain, has built its reputation on quick service and classic comfort dishes like gyudon (beef bowls), oyakodon (chicken and egg over rice), udon, and soba. According to data from Japan’s food service industry reports, fast-casual chains like Nakau thrive because they combine affordability with standardized quality control. You feel that system at work here. Orders are processed quickly through a ticket machine, food arrives within minutes, and yet it doesn’t feel rushed.

The menu is broad but focused. The oyakodon is arguably the star. Softly simmered chicken and fluffy egg rest over steamed Japanese rice, finished with a light soy-based sauce. The balance of sweetness and umami is subtle, not overpowering. When I first tried it, I paid attention to the texture: the egg wasn’t overcooked, and the chicken retained its tenderness. That level of precision is no accident. Japanese culinary standards, often highlighted by organizations like the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), emphasize ingredient freshness and technique, even in fast-service settings. You can taste that discipline here.

Beyond rice bowls, the udon options are comforting, especially in cooler weather. The broth is clean and delicate, showing restraint rather than heaviness. If you’re new to Japanese noodles, it helps to know that udon uses a thicker wheat noodle compared to soba’s buckwheat base. The difference affects both flavor and texture, and Nakau’s kitchen handles both well. I once brought a friend who had never tried soba before; he was surprised by its nutty undertone and lighter mouthfeel. It became his regular order after that visit.

Customer reviews often mention the convenience factor, and I get why. This location along Route 163 is accessible, with straightforward parking and a layout designed for quick turnover. It’s not a cozy café where you linger for hours. Instead, it’s efficient, practical, and dependable. Yet there’s a certain comfort in that predictability. You know the menu, you know the flavors, and you know you’ll be in and out without hassle.

Pricing is another strong point. In a region where dining costs can vary widely, Nakau keeps things budget-friendly. Rice bowls and noodle sets are reasonably priced, making it popular among students, office workers, and families. From a value perspective, it aligns with broader trends in Japan’s dining culture, where quick-service restaurants aim to provide balanced meals at accessible prices. Rice, protein, and soup combinations reflect a nutritional structure that dietitians often recommend: carbohydrates for energy, protein for satiety, and broth-based dishes that avoid excessive oil.

What also stands out is cleanliness. During my visits, tables were wiped promptly, condiment stations were tidy, and staff moved with quiet efficiency. In Japan, hygiene standards in food establishments are generally strict, governed by local health authorities. While I don’t have access to specific inspection records for this branch, the visible upkeep inspires confidence.

Of course, it’s fair to note that Nakau isn’t a gourmet dining destination. If you’re seeking artisanal plating or a slow, curated tasting experience, this isn’t that. It’s everyday Japanese comfort food, done right. And sometimes that’s exactly what you need.

Between its strategic Moriguchi location, reliable menu staples, and steady stream of positive reviews, this Nakau branch earns its place as a dependable roadside diner. Whether you’re grabbing a quick lunch, fueling up after work, or introducing someone to classic Japanese bowls and noodles, it delivers straightforward flavors with professional consistency.

  • Absolutely lovely place! We were in the local area and needed something to eat, we saw the restaurant on Google Maps and decided to go in. A really kind, friendly young lady served us and all the food and drinks we had were 10/10! The matcha iced latte with boba was delicious! Highly recommend this place for quantity food and friendly service at a very reasonable price!
